Fecher
Rita Fecher has created a unique body of work that documents
the explosion of avant garde theater in New York City beginning
in the late Sixties. Using only the light o the stage in the
darkened theater, Ms. Fecher drew and so immortalized performances
by, among others, The Living Theater, The Ridiculous Theatrical
Company, The Playhouse of the Ridiculous, La Mama Experimental
Theater, and the theater groups of Robert Wilson, Andre Gregory,
etc. Her status as a theater artist is in the tradition of
Lautrec and Cocteau.
In these drawings, Ms. Fecher pays homage to Charles Ludlum,
the late actor-director of The Ridiculous Theatrical Company.
Her obvious pleasure in recreating the fantasy world of the
Ridiculous with ink, colored pencil, glitter, sequins, gold
and silver is a tribute to the pure joy and whimsy Ludlam
brought to the New York stage for more than 20 years.
New York City's famed Chelsea Hotel painting by Ms. Fecher
(where she lives in a penthouse studio) ......the home or
hangout at one time or another of such artists as Bob Dylan,
Milos Foreman, Janis Joplin, Arthur Miller, Dylan Thomas Jackson
Pollack, Patti Smith, Andy Warhol and nameless other.
