Writer Jon Hart called Mickey Ruskin, "One of New York's greatest impresarios of the night," noting that, "With his demise, New York lost one of its greatest restaurateurs and staunchest supporters of the arts." (NewYork Times 5/11/03) His compassion, generosity and humanitarianism were demonstrated by his efforts to help struggling artists whom he considered part of his extended family. May 16th marked the 20th Anniversary of Mickey's death (1933-1983).

The Max's Kansas City Project in association with FEVA (Federation for East Village Artists) will host a Benefit Party/Silent Auction as a Tribute to Mickey. (Venue TBA) The nonprofit organization was established in his memory (June 2001) to foster the spirit inherent in his philosophy of helping artists in need.

Honoring Mickey at the event, and in support of the efforts of the nonprofit will be guest Hosts: Kathy Lacey, Mickey's widow, and his adult children, among others.

The nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing Emergency Funding & Resources for financially distressed individuals in the creative arts for housing, medical aid and legal aid, prioritizing our max's kansas city extended family. (We have helped several individuals in need of assistance).

Equally as important, we educate youth and communities on the negative effects of substance abuse & addiction through workshops, inspirational guidance, and assistance in building confidence and a stronger self image.
